DoubleTake – Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

When and where will I be able to purchase DoubleTake?

A:

NexOptic is expecting to release DoubleTake in late Q1 2020. We plan to first offer an early adopter pre-sale for our most enthusiastic customers.

To stay up to date and be the first to know about this, be sure to sign up for our newsletter.

DoubleTake will also be available to be purchased in mid Q2 2020 directly from our website, or at a variety of retail outlets.

Q:

How long will the battery last?

A:

We anticipate that DoubleTake’s battery will last for 3 hours of continuous use. For most use cases we expect the battery to last for several days as there is little to no drain on the battery while the DoubleTake is in sleep mode.

If you are planning a long journey, take advantage of DoubleTake’s swappable battery, run DoubleTake using auxillary power over, or charge the DoubleTake over USB.

Q:

What resolution images and video does DoubleTake capture?

A:

Both the wide-angle and telephoto lenses capture stunning high resolution 12 megapixel ( 4056×3040 ) images, and 4k ( 3840×2160@30fps ) video streams.

These images and videos can be saved as high quality jpegs and mp4s to either a memory card or directly over Wi-Fi to your mobile device.

Q:

Will the Doubletake have manual exposure control?

A:

Our goal was to build a device that is easy to use.

NexOptic has deliberately made the experience of using Doubletake as simple as possible and some controls will not be directly accessible from DoubleTake.

However, many advanced features such as exposure control will be able to be adjusted using DoubleTake’s companion app which will be available for free on your iOS or Android device.

Q:

Does DoubleTake use digital zoom?

A:

Doubletake uses Nexoptic’s patent-pending folded-optics design to achieve true 10x optical power. In traditional camera speak, it has about a 523 mm equivalent focal length at f 2.5!

Q:

Will DoubleTake’s display have touch, pinch, and zoom?

A:

DoubleTake’s ultra-bright LCD offers single-point touch control of settings and viewing of pictures and video. You absolutely can zoom in on your pictures, just not with a multi-point “pinch zoom” experience.

Q:

Will other viewing modes be supported besides the default 2x and 10x?

A:

DoubleTake only supports rapid switching between 2x and 10x at this time.

Q:

Can you comment on DoubleTake’s low-light performance?

A:

We can confidently say DoubleTake is well-poised for tackling low-light environments.

A key factor for low-light performance is the amount of light collected by the lens. DoubleTake has an impressive telephoto lens at f/2.5 and wide angle lens at f/2.08. Both of these lenses collect a lot of light – great for low-light conditions.

Q:

I heard DoubleTake was unveiled at CES 2020, is it available now?

A:

Yes, NexOptic officially unveiled DoubleTake at CES 2020! Our production team worked around the clock to deliver several hand-assembled DoubleTake prototypes. These prototypes have our newly redesigned telephoto lens and most of the final features implemented. This gave us the opportunity to show-off DoubleTake to key industry contacts and advance discussions around distribution and sales. Now we’re working just as hard to make final adjustments in preparation for mass production and sales. Stay-tuned.

Q:

Will DoubleTake have NexOptic’s ALLIS software included?

A:

Our focus is on delivering DoubleTake as quickly as possible. We understand pairing these two amazing technologies would make for an excellent offering, but we know each stands on its own. For now, DoubleTake will not include ALLIS.

Q:

Will DoubleTake be available in my country?

A:

We want DoubleTake in your hands, and will be able to announce exactly where and how we’ll make that happen. Stay tuned!

Q:

What is the 35mm equivalent focal length of DoubleTake’s wide-angle and telephoto lenses?

A:

DoubleTake has a ~523mm 35mm equivalent focal length telephoto lens, and a ~83mm 35mm equivalent focal length wide-angle lens.

Q:

Can you tell me more about DoubleTake’s screen?

A:

DoubleTake’s screen is a 5-inch 720×1280 (720p) resolution display with a pixel density of about 270ppi. The display supports single-point touch and is ultra-bright at almost 1000 nits.

Q:

Will DoubleTake support live streaming?

A:

Live streaming and full control of DoubleTake is supported over DoubleTake’s wifi hotspot feature.

Q:

Your CES specs show DoubleTake only supporting USB 2.0, won’t this mean slow media transfer?

A:

While it’s true DoubleTake’s Ambarella H22 DSP only supports USB 2.0, we’re giving you lots of option for transferring your media.

The micro-SD card is easily accessible and can be used to transfer files directly to your computer with the help of an SD reader or SD to USB 3.0 adapter.

Importantly though, we’ve incorporated media transfer directly into our DoubleTake app. This makes sharing and transferring your media even easier!

Q:

What is DoubleTake’s size and weight?

A:

DoubleTake’s size is 156 x 81 x 74 mm (L x W x H), and weighs 700g.

Also, be sure to check out our CES 2020 Spec Sheet.

Q:

I have a question that isn’t answered here!

How do I get the information I want?

A:

Please feel free to submit a question and we’ll try to answer it as quickly as we can.
